Hi Kids,

In lieu of scenic filler blocks for mismatches in the interface plate scenic profile, Lynn and I were discussing the idea of colouring the IP's.

Fresh paint can stay tacky for weeks and Latex could become tacky in humid conditions. Clamping painted IP's could create a sticky situation.

Instead of paint, we are experimenting with using a stain.

Lynn has a black water-based $tain from RONA, but after applying it to one IP, we think that it may be just as distracting as leaving the wood bare.

Yesterday, I popped into a dollar store and picked up a brown shoe polish.

Here's the result:

Hi Ron,
Is this polish the liquid stuff with the applicator right on the bottle? That might work like a stain and not leave a surface coating to cause any stickiness.
I personally think that the drop on scenic cover is the way to go and this would help make the uncovered face less noticeable if a cover was not available. To be effective the brown should probably closely match other "browns" used nearby.
Looking at the balloon today I wondered if even a grayish colour would be good next to the rock face in this particular case. So the colour selected maybe needs to take into account the particular module to which it's applied.

Hi Lynn,

Yes, this is the liquid shoe polish with the applicator on the bottle.

It is made by "KS". [Kaslo & Slocan shoe polish?] :-)

Yes, scenic filler blocks are preferred, but this will help...

Hi Ron,

Be careful of the shoe polish -- depending on the composition, you may not be able to paint over it later. A lot of wood stains and various polishes are wax based. Might be worth trying some paint now, just to see.

Cool that it's KS! There's a "K&S" convenience store on Kingston Road I should get a picture of...

Cheers,
Rob

HI Rob,

These are the Interface Plates, not the Fascia. This is an alternative to paint.

There is the danger of painted interface plates sticking together, so using a stain is preferable.

It's a matter of keeping the stain off of areas that are to be painted...

Stain on the interface plates and paint on the fascia.
